There are very deep cracks in the stone structure of the Earth, known as fault lines, that are involved in earthquakes, and several fault lines run through California; Florida does not have fault lines (although it does have hurricanes).
California has more earthquakes because it is on a coastline.
This is false.
The reason California has more earthquakes because it has the San Andreas fault. The fault is a transverse fault. This means that the two tectonic plates are rubbing against each other and creating tension. The plates have so much tension that they will practically stop moving and then all of a sudden they will jump and cause an earthquake.
California is next to a fault line, which means rocks in the earth's core are colliding, rubbing, or affecting each other in some way. Because California resides on top of these rocks, it is moved(earthquake happens).
California sits on a major fault line called the San Andreas fault, where the North American plate and Pacific plate slide past one another. When one plate slips an earthquake occurs.
Florida is not on a major fault line.
The Earth has tectonic plates which cover large portions of the globe. Oceans and continents sit on top of them. These tectonic plates move very slowly, but occasionally they get caught for a time. When the pressure is so immense that the two sides finally break free, there is an earthquake.
These boundaries between plates are called faults. California is situated right on the San Andreas fault. (The border between the Pacific and North American Plates). New York, by contrast is in the middle of the North American Plate. (The North American Plate extends about halfway into the Atlantic Ocean.) Therefore, New York does not experience as many earthquakes.
Because California is positioned over the San Andreas fault.
California is on a fault line of the Pacific and North American plates and Michigan is not close enough to a fault line to cause an earthquake.
Because California is right smack dab in the middle of the San Andreas fault
There are more Earthquakes in California as america is on the edge of it tectonic plate as London is in the middle and it is in england which is a island.
California sits on the edge of the North American plate that is colliding with the Pacific Plate. As the plate moves it activates faults along the plate causing earthquakes.
Not comepletely, but places such as California and Japan have better building structures compared to other places because they are more prone to earthquakes
Yes, California has earthquakes. EVERYWHERE has earthquakes. California is actually the biggest earthquake risk zone in the United States.Calafornia does have earthquakes it is actually the top state or whatever to have the most earthquakes in the world i thinkCalafornia does have earthquakes it is actually the top state or whatever to have the most earthquakes in the world i think
It has to do with stress in the earth's crust. There are more earthquakes where there is more stress. Most of this occurs at the boundaries between the tectonic plates as they slowly grind against each other.
California is situated on a tectonic plate boundary, whereas New Jersey is not. It also has a fault located near by and when there is stress put on that fault it causes seismic activity.
My country has alomost 10 or more earthquakes every month my country name is Bangldesh it is a very small country.

California has more earthqakes than Massachusetts
( EARTHQUAKES ) you forgot the (R) Most Earthquakes occur in California." California seems to be one large active area for earthquakes.... visit (Global educaton.com to find out more info or (U.S GS) - these websites will give you all earthquakes on record and the largest on record along with the many places they have occurd... :D Good Luck!!!
Everywhere on the planet suffers from earthquakes at some time. However there ares some places where earthquakes, particularly bad earthquakes, are more frequent. These places are located at continental margins.
more techtonic plate coliding in California
Yes. Earthquakes are a common occurrence in California, and some of the faults have been known to produce major earthquakes. It is inevitable that more major earthquakes will strike California in the future, but there is no way of knowing when or where they will be centered.
California next to Alaska, but California's quakes are more damaging.
Japan. It has a lot of earthquakes, and is one of the most affected areas in the world. Because of their technology level (compared to countries like Indonesia and Fiji), Japan is the country with the most earthquakes reported each year. Though, that doesn't mean it's the country with the most earthquakes. But it certainly has more earthquakes than California.

California get a lot more earthquakes then Gerogia. Gerogia has alot of floods and hurricanes. You can get all of your quick answers here on wiki answers.com
California experiences earthquakes frequently as compared to other States. Skyscrapers are more vulnerable to the shaking during an earthquake than shorter buildings. So they don't build as high in California.
California has more earthquakes then Florida, because California sits along the San Andreas Fault line. ( )-improvement, actually California sits on a series of many fault lines, the San Andreas only being one of them. San Andreas runs most of the length of the coast of California and is well known because it has a hard "kink" near LA which causes more violent earthquakes when it shifts, and can actually be seen in the topography of some areas of California from overhead. These fault lines are also a part of the "ring of fire" which causes the majority of the earthquakes and volcanoes along the West Coast of N America, Japan, and many of the Island chains of the Pacific.
