Had the same problem on my 2000 GMC Sonoma. After getting it replaced for the third time (all three under warranty) the mechanic recommended not allowing the fuel gauge to read less than a quarter tank remaining. He said the fuel acts as a coolant for the fuel pump (go figure, using a volatile liquid as a coolant). In the nine plus years of following his advice, I haven't replaced the fuel pump.
Fuel pumps often begin to act up really shortly before it goes out completely, it just depends on whats wrong usually you don't get very much notice about spending a $100.00 or moreLOL
89 Fords have low pressure pumps in tank and high pressure pump on frame Fuel pumps for injected ford trucks are inside the tanks.
2 tanks 2 fuel pumps. each tank will haves it's own fuel pump. i just put 2 new tanks and fuel pumps in my 87 stepside.
the relays rarely fail, but the pumps fail frequently- get set as they're expensive!!
If your truck is a 1992 be it a 22re or a V-6 then it is fuel injected. All fuel injected Toyota trucks have the fuel pumps located in the fuel tank.
it is under the bed of the truck next to the cab. Easiest way to get to it is to remove the bed of the truck, don't be freaked out its fairly easy. There are two fuel pumps on the truck one under the drivers seat that one is a high pressure pump and theres one in the fuel tank.
It will have one in each fuel tank and one on the drivers side frame rail under the cab were you set.
fuel pumps go bad after sitting for a while, check that
All fuel pumps make some noise. If the noise is much louder than other fuel injected cars your fuel pump is defective. Fuel pumps that make noise normally fail before long.
have one person sit in the truck and one person with their ear on the gas tank. have the person in the truck turn the key 2 clicks and listen for humming. if there is no humming fuel pumps not working
All electrical fuel pumps hum while running. As they get older they may get a little louder but it's normal.
Partially clogged fuel filter or you are buying cheap fuel pumps.
