I had that same issue. I had the Pittman arm replaced and it helped about 75%. I know theres an adjustment on the steering box for tightness of the gears, I've done it on other GM vehicles for looseness, it has worked, but I have not done it on my S10 yet, but I will soon. ~Bob

Why is there play in your steering wheel?
In an older vehicle with Pittman steering, a certain amount of steering wheel play is normal.
