The best I can do is to guess, so bear with me.

When your AC is on, it places quite a burden on the engine.

You can probably hear the RPM's drop when you turn the

AC on. In a car with a big V8 engine, this is no big deal. The

amount of power "stolen" by the AC compressor, compared

with the total power available, is negligible. BUT, in our little

4 bangers, that ratio changes considerably.

When you're stopped with the AC on, the car just doesn't

idle quite as fast as it does with the AC off. I don't really know

if there is something that's supposed to compensate for this or

not, but I don't think so.

But on to your pushing problem. I would guess that at idle with the

car in gear and the AC running, your idle is not consistent. It may

be fluctuating and when the RPM's come up, you have more power

to the car and it wants to move. When the RPM's drop, this tendency

stops. I'm wondering if your engine is surging. Is this something you've

encountered with the AC off and the car in park? The engine speed rising

and falling? If so, I'd look for a vacuum leak under the hood. Have a look

at all the hoses and make sure they're in good condition and connected

tightly.

If this doesn't help, it may be time for a tuneup. If it's been a while since you

replaced plugs, plug wires and the fuel filter, I'd start there and see what

happens. It couldn't hurt to run a container of injector cleaner through the

gas tank either.

What is the function of transmission?

to pull the vehicle down the road using different gears. if you didn't have one, then you could only go as fast as your engine revolutions allow. Also without a torque-converter your engine would stall when you stopped the car.
