Eid al-Fitr, often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "to break fast"; and so the holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period.
You, as Muslim, fast 6 days after eid (in the month of Shawwal) voluntarily following the Guides of prophet Muhammad and his terachings as he said that fasting Ramadan and 6 days of Shawwal equivalent to fasting the whole year. It is amazing that if we calculate the good deed 'hasana' to be rewarded as ten 'hasana', then fasting the month of Ramadan will be rewarded as 10 months and the six days of Shawwal will be rewarded as 60 days (or roughly two months). Accordingly, fasting the month of Ramadan plus 6 days of Shawwal will be rewarded as fasting 12 month or the whole year.
It is not compulsory. If you fast the 6 days after Ramadan you are rewarded by Allah (God in English). If you don't you are not penalized.
Muslims celebrate only 2 holidays. Eid Al Fitr & Eid Al Adha.
Zaman Eid is 6'.
3 to 6 days
Across the Caribbean islands, Islam is very much a minority religion so Eid celebrations would be limited. There is evidence of people returning from the diaspora as Muslims, particularly countries such as Jamaica. Countries with a high Indian diaspora, such as Trinidad and Tobago (apparently 6% Muslim) also have mosques and so there would be some Eid celebrations. In Cuba, the practice of Islam is restricted but there are still some Muslims. On the South American mainland Guyana, apparently, has a 10% Muslim population so, again, more Eid celebrations would take place there. Check out "Islam by country" on Wikipedia for more stats...
