Why does the Norway have a cross?

It is a long standing flag-tradition that christian countries have a cross in their flag. Our state religion is christian (though we are not a very religious nation, its our cultural heritage more like it) All the Scandinavian countries have the same cross in their flag. The colours: red, white and blue symbolizes freedom. The US and Norway both have these colours, and we are both free after having been under the rule of some other nation, Norway under Sweden and denmark, and the US under the british empire:)

Why is the New Zealand flag similar to Australia's flag?

Quite simple (1) The NZ flag does not have the "Commonwealth Star" which is an integral part of the Australian flag (this is the six pointed star to represent the six founding states plus Australia's territories, located under the Union Jack) (2) The NZ flag has the Southern Cross coloured red with white borders(rather than white on the Aussie flag) (3) The Southern Cross on the NZ flag only has four five-pointed stars (rather than five on the Aussie - four with seven points and one with five) (Typo on original answer incorrectly said the stars on the Aussie flag were blue - they are of course white

Does Scotland and Britain have the same flag?

No, not exactly. The Scottish flag is a blue background with a white diagonal cross. It is part of the Union flag for Britain. The other two parts are made up from the Northern Ireland flag and the English flag. The Welsh flag for some reason has no place.

Is the flag of England the same as the british flag?

Absolutely not. The flag of England shows the Cross of St. George, a red cross on a white field, most often seen waved by English soccer fans in international competition. The British flag is the Union flag, which replaces most of the field of white with blue (to symbolize the inclusion of Scotland) and adds an extra red x.

Why is Saint Andrew's symbol a white cross on a blue background?

The Saltire flag has a white cross with blue background to symbolise the crucifixion of Saint Andrew. The form of the cross on the flag is supposedly the same form of the cross that Saint Andrew was crucified on. Many other flags are inspired by the Saltire, like Jamacia and Albama.
