All four wheels locking up? Let's see:
If they do this when you're not depressing the brake pedal at all, it is likely that the brake fluid has been contaminated with oil. If so, it will be necessary to replace the master cylinder, fluid reservoir cap, all flexible brake hoses, all calipers, all wheel cylinders and if it is a wagon the proportioning valve. It is also possible that the brake pedal is not fully returning to the full up position. Check for any obstructions.
If it happens when you are depressing the brake pedal:
Most likely:
-depressing pedal too hard
-under-inflated, worn, excessively old, or mismatched tires
-faulty shock absorbers and/or springs
-excessive looseness in steering/suspension linkages especially strut rod bushings or outer tie rod ends
-incorrect wheel alignment
-friction material contaminated my exposure to fluids, flood damage
The symptoms may be a problem with a bad door ajar sensor - very very common on the Taurus/Sables. See "Related Questions" below for more about both: programming auto-locking and trouble-shooting door ajar sensors.
yes, the only purpose of the anti-lock system is to keep the wheels from locking up when you slam on the brakes. The brakes them selves function as usual. You will just have the chance of locking your wheels up and sliding if you slam on them.
You need new brakes. IF its really bad you're going to need new rodars.
it is possible that your brake hoses are bad and soft not letting the brake fluid back out of your calipers
a safety system which prevents the wheel on a motor vehicle from locking while braking.
Possibly, sometimes the brake cylinder develops rust and sticks. If a cylinder has problems I find it easier to replace the whole cylinder or caliper.
Drum brake? Broken return spring? Bad self-adjuster? Parking brake not adjusted properly? Disc Brake? Frozen caliper? Parking brake not adjusted properly?
cuz it does
It is possible the rubber lines at the calipers are collapsing causing a suction which will not allow the brakes to release. might want to check that. Had same issue replaced lines and calipers wheel bearing and found it to be an abs issue the pressure is not releasing
u need to pull drum off and make sure that adjuster is not istalled backwards. if it is it will just keep tightening the brake
I hope I understand your question. Anti-lock brakes are used to keep your brakes from locking if you slam them on. If your wheels lock, your tires will skid on the pavement. This will increase your stopping time and possibly throw your car into an uncontrollable skid since one front wheel may skid before the other. Wet pavement exacerbates the problem.
