Both the Romans and the Pope instructed vehicles to drive on the left, until the 18th century, when the United States and France began hauling farm products in big wagons pulled by several pairs of horses. The driver would hold a whip in his right hand and sat on the left rear horse, so that he could lash the time. If another cart came the other way, he would pass them on the right hand side so that he could make sure he didn't scrape the passing cart.

In England, there was no need for huge trains of horses and the driver would sit on the cart itself. He also sat on the right hand side so he could whip the horses without hitting the cart. As he sat on the right, he would pass other carts on the left hand side. The keep left law was introduced in 1756, first on London Bridge, and later spread to the whole British Empire.

Which side of the road does Singapore drive on?

In Singapore, cars and other vehicles drive on the left of the road, as we do in Britain. This was due to its British past colonial history. So the steering wheel will be on the right as in vehicles in Britain. I believe that any vehicles with left -hand drive have to display a notice on the rear warning that they are a left-hand drive vehicle.
