Why do countries find it necessary to go to war over an ideology?

Countries never go to war over ideology. The ideology is just a convenient excuse to sell the war to the citizens. Look behind the ideology for the real reason.
Example: Hitler didn't invade the Sudetenland because Germans needed "Lebensraum." He did it to increase his own power and to stimulate the economy of a country that was in a severe economic depression. But Lebensraum sold better.

Wars are almost always fought for economic / political gain. Various ideologies are used to convince people to fight, but vary rarely if ever are they the main reason for fighting a war.
For example the crusades were said to be a religious war against Islam. The real benificiaries of the war were to plunder gold and obtain technology from a more advanced civilization. International banking was also established throughout Europe during the crusades, by the knights templar.
