Why do dogs carry their dish around the house and show it to strangers and others members of the family even if they have just finished eating?

I'm wondering if this dog is a golden retriever? I've seen goldens do this. To the dog his dish is associated with pleasant things, mainly eating. It could be his own subtly way of asking for a treat even though he has just eaten. It's also cute and he picked up on how this behavior pleases the people around him. Sounds like a smart dog to me.
