Historically, Muslims had many of the same problems describing earthquakes as Christians did and argued that they were caused by God as vengeance for a wicked population. Additionally, far from endorsing plate tectonics, the traditional view of Qur'anic verse 78:7, led Muslims to believe that the Earth stood still unless an earthquake occurred.
However, when science discovered plate tectonics, Muslims readily accepted the conclusions of the science and it is rare to find Muslims who argue that earthquakes are the result of God's wrath as opposed to a natural phenomenon.
