Why do girls just talk about other people?

Because all girls are self-conscious and talking about other girls' flaws diverts the attention off of their own flaws.

While it's true that some girls and women may enjoy talking about others, it's not the case with all of them. And, while the above answer is correct about the reason somegirls talk about others, there are also some who do it for the simple fact that they like to gossip and talk trash about other people.

But there are also plenty of boys and men who love to do their share of gossiping and trash talking, too.

And then there are those (both male and female) who don't like talking about others in a mean or hurtful way. A good rule to follow is if you wouldn't want others saying certain things about you, then don't say them about others, whether they are true or not.

Some people have the mistaken belief that just because something about another person is true, that gives them the "right" to talk about it. But nothing could be further from the truth.

Not all girls just talk about other people and not necessarily in a negative way.

In general, girls are interested in other people much more so than are boys. Age old competition amongst women may lead to meanness in some young women. Remember also that girls have been sequestered in prior times and in many cultures, excluded from education and taught only 'womanly' skills. That may have lead to the development of behaviors in groups of young women today.

Boys are more self absorbed- concerned with their own thoughts and activities. They tend not to get involved with other people too deeply. They compete with other boys in other ways than getting involved in personal lives.

Women and men approach relationships with others differently. It has been said that women relate face to face- directly with the other person, and men relate to each other shoulder to shoulder, relating as part of a group but not on a personal level.
