Wealthy persons and people with visible social status become Freemasons for personal reasons, but often they are the same reasons that men from all walks of life approach our portals. Typically men are looking for something bigger in their lives - perhaps a sense of honor, or brotherhood. Each man has his own specific reasons for looking into becoming a Freemason - reasons that are discussed during the interview process leading up to a ballot for membership.
It is certainly interesting that many of these men are or become men of consequence in society, and many are the words in praise of the tenets of Freemasonry and their contribution to the man's drive and outlook on life. But ultimately we must also recognize that many great men are not Freemasons, and therefore Freemasonry should not be viewed as some automatic ticket to greatness.
