Blubber, or fat, is a way to keep an animal warm in extreme cold temperatures, like sea mammals that are in the icy cold Arctic Ocean all their lives. If they didn't have a thick covering of fat, they would quickly freeze to death.

Most Marine Mammals have a thick layer of blubber to act as insulation, because they are warm-blooded but live on ice flows and in the nearly frozen ocean. The ones in the Arctic and Antarctic most of the year have the thickest blubber (Right Whales, Blue Whales, which are both vegetarian migrators) and those in slightly warmer parts of the oceans have less blubber /total body weight. Look at seals and sea lions, they show the same variable thickness of the blubber layer that is always there, making them tasty treats for Killer whales (Orcas) and other predators.

the fat in the blubber keeps them warm, i kind of circulates the heat back and forth and prevents cold getting in.

My best friend weighs 500 pounds... I am pretty sure you can consider that much fat blubber after a certain point.

Alligators are cold blooded reptiles. They would freeze to death in Alaska. Alaska is a very cold place during the winter. There aren't many animals that can live in Alaska.
