Only the disturbance produced in the medium in the form of simple harmonic vibration gets propagated in the form of waves. Hence a material medium is a must to do so. But in case of light it is the electro magnetic energy being propagated and so no material medium is required as an essential one.

Is this true or false mecanical waves din't need matter to travel through?

False. Mechanical waves require a medium (such as air, water, or solid material) to propagate. They transmit energy through the vibration of particles in the medium. Examples of mechanical waves include sound waves and seismic waves.

What is a mecanical wave?

A mechanical wave is a type of wave that requires a medium, such as air or water, to travel through. Examples include sound waves and seismic waves. They transfer energy through the vibration of particles in the medium.

What waves need a medium and which don't?

Mechanical waves, such as sound waves and ocean waves, require a medium (solid, liquid, or gas) to propagate. Electromagnetic waves, including light waves and radio waves, do not require a medium and can travel through a vacuum.

What waves need a medium to travel in?

Mechanical waves, such as sound waves, require a medium to travel through. These waves propagate by causing particles in the medium to vibrate and transfer the energy of the wave. Electromagnetic waves, such as light waves, do not require a medium and can travel through a vacuum.

What types of waves require a medium?

Mechanical waves. For example, sound waves, ocean waves, etc. Many waves need a medium to travel: sound waves, water waves, and seismic waves.Electromagnetic waves do not need a medium.

Is it true that longitudinal waves never need a medium to transport the energy?

No, longitudinal waves do need a medium to transport energy. These waves propagate by compressing and rarefying the medium in the direction of the wave's travel, and they cannot travel through a vacuum. For example, sound waves in air are longitudinal waves that require the air medium for propagation.

Does light travels in waves and is required in a medium?

Yes, it travels in waves, but it doesn't need a medium.

Do em waves need a medium?

no

Waves that do not not need a medium?

Two waves that do not require a medium to travel would be light waves and gravitational waves. - Zach Harris, B.S. Physics

Waves that do require a medium are called?

Sound waves, they need a medium to vibrate.A2. Earthquake waves and other mechanical waves also need a medium for their transmission.Ghv. Tsunamis are a type of mechanical wave, which is the kind of wave you're looking for.

What is meant by the medium of a wave?

Waves need a medium to propagate themselves through. The waves generated on a pond by a falling droplet need a medium, in this case its the very water of the pond. Sound waves can propagate both though a water medium or an air medium for example. Electromagnetic waves are an exception in that they do not need a medium to propagate through (the can propagate through the void of interstellar space).

Is medium required to transmit light waves?

No. light waves required no medium for transmission.
