It helps to compare trans fat to saturated fat. One major problem with saturated fat is it increases LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels. Trans fat, in addition to doing that, also decreases HDL ("good") cholesterol levels. HDL normally helps to clear your system of LDLs, so it's essentially a double blow to your cholesterol levels.
In addition to that, trans fat offers nothing to you. It doesn't supply the fat you need and doesn't give you any energy.
