Firstly, we must realize that far many more Muslims are engaged in conflicts against other Muslims than are under attack from Non-Muslims. The Civil Wars in Iraq, the Revolution in Syria and Libya, the Afghan Battle against the Taliban, the Independence movement in Aceh, and the Iranian Repression of the Green Revolution are some of the many very recent Muslim-Muslim conflicts.

Once we realize that Non-Muslim attacks of Muslims are rarer, we can begin to pinpoint their sources. Often times, the fact that the people being attacked are Muslims is incidental. That is to say that the person is not being attacked BECAUSE he is Muslim, but that he JUST HAPPENS TO BE Muslim and the relevant factor is something else.

In the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and the Israeli-Arab conflict in general it is a political contest over land control. The Israeli-Arab conflict is responsible for numerous Christian, Druze, and Bahai'i deaths. Certainly Muslim deaths are the most numerous, but then again the populations in the Middle East are majority-Muslim.

In the Jugoslav Conflicts, this includes Bosnia, Albania, and Kosovo, religion takes a more central role, but only because the religion is used as a tool to define ethnicity. When the Serbs began to Ethnically Cleanse Kosovo, they were targeting Ethnic Albanians. Ethnic Albanians, conveniently for the Cleansers, are Muslim and so the religion is a good gauge to use to determine a person's ethnicity. (The emphasis on ethnicity also comes into play by the use of the term "ethnic cleansing.")

In the African Conflicts, this includes Ethiopia-Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, and many others in the Sahel Region, many of the Non-Muslims are recipients of Muslim attacks or destabilization efforts and retaliate to maintain prestige and territory. The fact that Hausa are Muslim, for example, is not the reason why the Yoruba attack them. The Yoruba attack them because the Hausa are trying to kick them out of Nigeria and the Nigerian Government.

In the South Asian Conflicts, India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh, this is also a territorial war where religion is used as an ethnic marker or a national marker. It is curious to note that India is home to nearly as many Muslims as Pakistan and they are integrated into the Indian Armed Forces, which shows that religion is not the basis of the Conflict.

What is jihad in the lights of islam?

Islam does not allow Muslims to attack other countries for gaining more power, money, land and etc. but in Islam if any group want to attack and kill Muslims, Islam first tries to make peace by talk and agreements and if it did not solve the problem then Muslims give a time (in a example mentioned in Koran 4 month) for deadline and then if they did not stop killing Muslims then Muslims should defend and fight for their land and people and family and it is called jihad.

Why do most Muslims want any non-Muslims dead?

Because it is not true that Muslims want non Muslims dead. Allah (God in English) commands Muslims to be kind and cooperative with non Muslims who show kindness to Muslims, don't attack them, or expel them from their homes and lands. Refer to question below.
