There is a simple explanation for that. Search engines pay other search engines for advertising placement on their search results. So you might go to Google.com and type in classified ads and then to fall on a result sponsored by Clasearch.com which is a classified search engine or You might search for Shopping and fall on a result sponsored by Avasearch.com

Most likely you will need to install a Google or MSN/Bing toolbar or search options on your computer. Right now it appears Yahoo is your primary search aggregator. These toptions can be changed when you open your browser (Firefox & Internet Explorer) from the Search box, click on the dropdown menu next to the Yahoo logo, select Manage Search Engines, from there a window will display which search engines are currently installed and you can select the order of such search engines, or add other search engines by clicking on the link in the window.
