this is how i see it from all I've experienced: no one just gets up one day and suddenly thinks they're fat then decides not to eat. they feel horrid about eating and it makes them feel extreme guilt and they have been obsessing about their body size. and they do decide not to eat because of the way they feel after eating. and they think they will achieve perfect body from all of this, even thought they are slowly dying and will not see if they are getting thinner, because in their heads, they are getting fatter. It is a psychological problem with the person. It's about the last control they feel they have in their lives. In many cases people that become Anorexic feel every part of their lives is controlled by parents, or their peers. The parents could be controlling, or, achievement of that young person is high (don't fail, always win.) The last thing they have control over is their eating habits. They begin to see themselves as looking fat, and, as the above poster said can obsess about their body size. When they look in the mirror (even if their body has become skeletal in appearance) they still feel they are fat. Most Anorexics experience hurt inside of them and feel if they change their body image their lives will be more rewarding and the hurt will go away.
Bulimia can be caused by many different things or factors. Often, it is a compilation of many factors that eventually will manifest themselves or transform into bulimia or anorexia. Some of those factors are...
*Low self esteem
*Low self body image
*Depression
*BDD (Body Dismorphic Disorder)
*Yo-Yo dieting
*History of other eating disorders
*Family / friends with eating disorders
*Socail / media influence
*OCD
*Dieting gone too far
*Teasing about weight, appearances
People die from anorexia because of either the problems it can cause or due to lack of nurtients. Without food, the body gets no nutrients, vitamins, minerals, energy, ect. After a while, the person will begin to waste away. It is possibly to die of starvation this way. With little to no body fat, in muhc colder weather anorexic can face a threat of freexing and hypothermia. Anorexics can also have weakened or strained organs, due to the over-exercise and lack of eating. This could cause collapse, faiting, dizziness, or - more severly - organ failure.
They can be. Anorexia cases are 90% in women, 10% in men.

Yes. Anorexia is a very dangerous and deadly disease. You are literally starving yourself. Depriving your body of food.
11 million people have anorexia and every year 15-20% of those people die from it.
There are not really statistics for the number of people who suffer from anorexia in a specific area or location, as this data is hard to accurately give so so many people go undiagnosed. A good estimate used, though, is about 1 in every 250 people will suffer from anorexia or anorexic tendencies.
Millions. An exact number is hard to place, as not all cases go reported. Also, many people may die of complications from anorexia, and not the actually disease itself. Of those affecteds with anorexia, about 20% will ultimately die from the disease or from a complication realted to anorexia.
Anorexia is not a contagious disease, exposure doesn't mean you get it. Anorexia is a mental condition, where the individual sees themselves as too fat, even when they are emaciated.
About 1 in every 250 people who suffers from an eating disorder suffers from anorexia.
People who suffer from anorexia are called anorexics.
