There are several major reasons that people have emigrated from Iraq in the last ten years.
1) Current Civil Strife: This is patently obvious to anyone who watches the news. There was a war going on Iraq from 2003-2011 and this caused a lot of people to flee the violence. There is also the current conflict between the Republic of Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
2) Religious and Ethnic Persecution: The Iraqi government has historically committed acts of genocide against its religious and ethnic minorities, making it unsafe for many of them (especially Christians) to remain safely in the country. The growing sectarian outlook in the country is making it more difficult for minorities to find protection.
3) Economic Opportunities: There are more economic and educational opportunities in the West than there are in Iraq.
