No it is not at all compusory that all christians should visit the holy land once in their lifetime.
I could give you a figure, but yes a high number do. Hundreds of thousands of Christians travel to the Holy Land every year on pilgrimages. Many of them return year after year to visit the many Christian holy sites.
In other cultures the Holy Land is important in other ways. For example, the Romans thought the Holy Land was important because to them more land meant more power. To the Muslims, the Holy Land was important to their religion, but not for the same reson it is important to a Jew or Christian.
