This is an odd way of putting it, since the absence of 'prejudice' against pigs, presumably, is the willingness to eat them. Any self-respecting pig would be happy to deal with the prejudice. Religious laws against eating pork probably came from the sensible observation that eating pork in biblical times often resulted in disease (trichinosis) caused by the roundworm trichinella spirosis. If that is in fact the origin of the law and there is no other religious component to it, then the threat of trichinosis is virtually extinct with reasonable care. This may be a good example of a kind of tradition that takes on a special meaning long after the original law is rendered obsolete.
