If people give you rude tones it may be because they themselves are rude or they may not like the way you have addressed them. I don't think it means that they hate you. Hate is a strong word.
WHY are people mean or rude?
People can mean because they might have family/personal issues and use you take out their anger. They might also be rude because they aren’t in a good mood today or they dislike your actions towards them. They might (small possibility) just like being mean although that is not the most common reason.
