Best Answer

Because people are fooled by the deceptive advertising used by the HSUS. They think they are giving money to help abused pets when in reality their funding pays for exorbitant salaries, pensions, and political action groups.

Where is humane society university located?

I think it is located in Washington D.C.No, there is no physical Campus or actual University grounds. It is a Online University created by The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) which they fund through grants to the tune of 1.7 million dollars in 2011, HSUS had $223,265,000 in gross receipts in 2011, in 2011, the most recent tax year for which nonprofit IRS filings are available, HSUS gave less than 1 percent of its budget for grants to support pet sheltering operations. HSUS certainly has money to spare. In those three years, HSUS spent nearly $376 million, yet grants to shelters consistently make up 1 percent or less of HSUS's budget. Where does much of the money go? Salaries, lobbying, pension plans, advertising, fundraising, and other non-pet shelter related budget priorities. According to its tax return, HSUS spent nearly $50 million on fundraising-related expenses in 2011, or 100 times more than it did on grants to support shelter aid. HSUS also put far more money into its pension plan-$2.4 million-than it put into these grants.Local shelters are well aware of the confusion most Americans have between national groups like HSUS and similarly named but unaffiliated local groups. A recent poll of 400 animal shelters, rescues, and animal controlagencies found that 84 percent of respondents agree with the statement that "fundraising by HSUS and the ASPCA makes it harder for my shelter to raise money," with 71 percent agreeing that "HSUS misleads people into thinkingit is associated with local animal shelters."HSUS itself acknowledges that between 3 and 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in American shelters every year-about half of all pets that enter their doors. But while HSUS can clearly afford to tackle the problem head on, it appears to have other priorities. At the end of 2011, HSUS reported having more than $183 million in net assets. Can't the Humane Society of the United States spare more to support pet shelters? Unfortunatly it appears that HSUS is just another Charity that only cares about it's net worth and little about the cause they raise the funds for.http://www.humanewatch.org/images/uploads/Not_Your_Local_Shelter_2012.pdfHeres their tax return;http://www.humanesociety.org/assets/pdfs/financials/2011_hsus_form_990.pdf

What can you do to help the poor animals that are being abused?

You can donate time, money or supplies to your local shelter or rescue organization. I suggest keeping your money local, as several of the large animal groups (HSUS, PETA, etc.) actually give only a small percentage of their revenues to help fund local animal shelters.

How much money does a humane society earn?

There are several layers to this answer. First, humane societies in the United States tend to be non-profit organizations, which means they can't earn money. They derive their operating expenses from fees for service and donations, but the income cannot exceed the expenses by all that much. Second, the money flow depends greatly upon what level you are asking about. Local humane societies (the ones you can visit in your community and adopt a pet from) tend to work with several million dollars a year or less. National organizations such as HSUS work with hundreds of millions of dollars a year, but (at least in the case of HSUS) the money typically goes towards animal advocacy rather than directly helping stray or abandoned animals in your community.
