It's called displacement (the transfer of an emotion from its original focus to another object, person, or situation). For example, one has a bad day at work, comes home and kicks the dog. He/she is transferring their frustrations, problems, inability to cope etc. in this case to the poor dog who had nothing to do with it.

They may grind up newly hatched chicks alive, slice off the sensitive beaks of chickens and turkeys, separate newborn calves from their mothers and chain them in tiny stalls, cut the teeth, tails, and testicles of baby pigs without anesthesia, or take the lives of animals.
Many people pay for this type of abuse to occur because they think it is necessary for humans to consume the flesh and secretions of other animals. Many do not realize that buying these products results in animal abuse.
