Why do people spread rumors about you etc and complain when you are angry about it and pretend they dont know anything about it?

Recheck your facts to make sure you got the rigt person. Bring back-up witnesses if you can. Don't make false accusations without proof to back them up. And excuse me, but make sure YOU aren't being a little paranoid. If you are sure, by all means , confront them . Rumormongers are a curse on society. Some people will most definitely lie when cornered.

Another PerspectiveRecognize that those who participate in character assassination do so out of a basic flaw in their own personality.

What is that person attempting to accomplish by spreading those rumors? Does he/she consider you to be a threat of any kind?

Here's an important tip in life... laugh.

Don't get angry when you find that someone has been telling lies about you; that just gives them a feeling of power. If you laugh at them, and ridicule them for their childish behavior, it not only diminishes the effect of their rumors, it also turns the whole thing around on them.

Find a way to ridicule what they have said, and turn it around to be THEIR problem, but most important, just be good-natured about it and be upbeat.

Those types of people will always be around, and if you let them get to you, they'll just keep poking at you. But if you just let it roll off, and let everyone know that the accusations are ludicrous, it will backfire on them.

Whatever you do, don't make accusations or start rumors about them.

When rumours may affect you professionally, or harm personal relationships, they MUST be addressed. Truly VISCIOUS rumors can ruin lives, for example, if someone said you were a thief , or a liar, or a child molester, you cannot just "Laugh off " these types of things .

some people just have that habit but do make a note this does not make them a bad person. they sometime do unintentionally. they could have thought it was real and just want further details. they might also want confirmation on the truth of the rumours. they might try to start a conversation and rumours they heard just popped up in they heads. or it could just be a clash of related topics during a social discussions.

they probably 'pretend' they dont know anything cos they think others 'dont know anything'. i mean, be rational, how many people tell it in your face 'im the one who spread the rumour' all of a sudden. all you can do is just ask and hope they reply with a well mannered way.

Another Perspective:No, if one participates in character assassination through the spread of rumors, that DOES make him/her a bad person. People who participate in that kind of behavior have such a poor self-image that they desperately need the attention and acceptance provided when they trash another innocent victim.

Spreading rumors is ALWAYS wrong. Doing so is evidence that someone is incapable of empathy and only seeks self-aggrandizement.

true enough some people do have an intention to hurt someone via untrue rumours but that is not always the case. as the matter of fact based on my personal experience, most rumours were spread unintentionally.most people cant accepts rumours but if you are truly open minded then things will actually just fly by and sometimes you realise that person who spread is actually just another victim of a false lie. im not saying all person do it unintentionally, but before you are spreading the wrong rumour about that person who spread false rumour, is better to do some check up, discussion and talk to the person head on.if you are always gonna judge a person who doesnt know they are doing the wrong thing, then you have no rights to claim his good or bad.
