Some Japanese people wear a mask because they don't want to get others sick. Some wear a mask because they don't want to get sick themselves. Some wear a mask because of air pollution and/or Allergies. Some wear a mask as a comforting mechanism because it warms the air before entering the lungs (which is a normal result of breathing through your nose - unless you have a cold and your nose is stopped up). Some probably do it as a fashion statement and some wear masks just because other people wear masks. So, why DON'T people in other parts of the world wear masks? -Almost Tokyo
