In the interest of propagating the rhetoric of environmental Imperialism: the belief that man is all powerful is founded in the conceptions of intellect, and adaptability. We usually conceive of human beings as "more intelligent", thus justifying our right to slaughter gross amounts of animals for the mass production of [largely bad] meat, as well as the right to destroy the natural environments of animals and the indigenous people that live there. Additionally, the superiority of humankind depends on the belief that we are the dominant species in virtue of our exceptional ability to adapt. This is a justification based on the logic of Charles' Darwin, who we know to be frequently misquoted, misunderstood, and exploited for projects that would cause him to roll over in his grave.

As for the scientific biological facts behind such an argument, I have no knowledge. This is mostly my opinion as a socio-anthropologist who studies the philosophical paradigms of our time.
