Why do some people become a Premier Answerer while others become a supervisor?

A Premier Answerer is completely different to a supervisor; these users are selected due to the quality of their answers, and not their general contributions towards the site. However quite a few Premier Answerers are also offered a supervisor position, but turn it down. You cannot be both a Premier as well as a supervisor.

Generally, you don't become a Supervisor based upon on how many contributions you've made to Answers as far as answering questions, editing questions etc., you become a Supervisor based on your personality as far as how you treat others. You could also become a Supervisor a lot easier if you're in the Special Project Assistants program.

Each SPA is assessed on their own merits and achievements, and there is no set time frame placed on the period they will remain an SPA. How long before they become a Supervisor is based solely on how well they complete the tasks set and their conduct on the site. Note that there is also a minimum age to be a supervisor.

To become a supervisor on Answers, you must first show yourself as an asset to the site, follow the rules, and be active. Then you should ask to join a program, or if others see you as a worthy asset to the site, they may ask you to consider joining a program. The main program of interest would be The Initiates Program. You will be given assignments. Upon graduation, if it is determined you are a good fit, then you will be a provisional floating supervisor. Then you will be assigned a mentor and be added to the mentoring program. They may or may not be your previous mentor. From there, you will be trained how to use each of the tools and how to deal with all the various situations you will encounter on the site.
