The injury caused by a lightning strike depends greatly on the amount of current that enters the body. A lightning strike is very high voltage, but it can be distributed over a very large area (as shown by the dendritic branching patterns). Unless one is hit directly by a return stroke, the current can be carried through the liquids of the skin to the ground without causing fatal damage. A lightning strike on a sports field can injure as many as a dozen players, and yet kill no one.

Some people have been hit more than once by lightning, suffering skin burns (especially on the head, back, or heels) and occasionally nerve damage.

Can being struck by lightning alter your brain?

Definitely. Individuals struck by lightning can have changes to the function or chemistry of the brain and nervous system. Fortunately most of those who survive being struck recover without serious impairment, even when there is damage to body tissues. Some suffer recurring headaches.

Can you die if struck by lightning?

Yes, and it will likely kill you or cause severe damage to the brain/nervous system. In the USA alone every year, on average about 90 people are killed by lightning strikes. However, this figure also varies. In 2008 there were 329 people struck in the United States, with 302 injured and 27 killed. There is no safe place outside during a lightning storm. Of those killed, 7 were under trees, 3 were on the beach, 2 were swimming and one was camping near a tent. You can get struck by lightning if you are holding a Lightning Rod, for example an umbrella is made of mental on the part you are holding. Lightning Rods actually attracts lightning. Never be under a tree either.A word of Advice: Never hold something metal during a lightning storm, it is best to be inside. If you search the statistics about lightning strikes, you shall see that in the united states the place with the most is the state of Florida. None of the strikes has been in the water opposed to the myth. The only time lightning seems to hit the sea is to end hitting a floatin boey.Yes a lightning can strike you assuming you are at the specific time in the specific place. The statistics imply that it is more probable to get hit by a lightning than to be bitten by a shark or die in an airplane accident.

How many times can you survive getting hit by lightning?

Why dont you find out? You would obviously have to write down some form of statement of attempt number 1 before you actually do attempt to be struck by lightning and in actual fact do not survive to give the readship an update... Anyway good luck in your pursuit of "knowledge".

How did people deal with lightning befroe the lightning rod was invented?

Some people tried ringing church bells to disperse lightning storms, but it never worked

How can you survive if electricity shocks you?

You most certainly can, we got shocked all the time, when you rub wool socks and touch a door knob you get shocked, and of course you survive. What you might be referring to is electrocution, say struck by lightning and have died, in some cases you can survive it all depends on what you're using and what you were shocked by, lightning actually isn't as fatal, more people survive from getting shocked by lightning then by getting shocked by electrical wires or a common house hold item, in might seem a little far-fetched, but it is indeed true. Hope that Helps!!
