Patents and copyrights are awarded to ensure that creative people will continue to create. Without a reward for their creations, much of the advancement of science would cease.<br><br>It is the profit incentive of a free market that provides great incentive for creativity - to create new technology, drugs, etc. All of society benefits - even if the prices are somewhat higher for a period of time (although competition will bring prices down eventually). <br><br>Better to pay a high price for a new technology than not have it at all.<br>
