I am supporter of gun rights and I have yet to see someone point to early English law to make a point. I will consistently point out the Second Amendments in both the United States Constitution as well as the Colorado Constitution. Those documents are what started the US and then respectively the Colorado government. Therefore, despite age, they must be adhered to. They are legal documents and in my opinion if you opposed them so adamantly then, by all means, I won't keep you in this country.
Supporters of gun rights often point to early English law because it is seen as a historical precedent for an individual's right to bear arms. They argue that English common law recognized the right to self-defense and the possession of firearms as an essential means to protect oneself and one's property. By referencing this historical context, they seek to emphasize the long-standing tradition of individual gun ownership rights.
