Why we celebrate St. Patty's day is because the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick is believed to had died on that day. The first offical celebration took place in Boston in 1767. Then New York followed along. What really made st. Patrick's day boom was a potatoe famine in Ireland killing 1 million people back in Ireland. But the people that came from Ireland reinforced the St. Patty's day celebration.
