Are airbags reusable?

Yes, no and maybe. First, lets cover the "No." Once your car airbags deploy the aluminum cylinder releases all the gas, the airbag cover breaks open and the bag is inflated. Unless, you recycle aluminum, plastic or cloth the airbag can be safely discarded once it has deployed. So in this case the airbag is not reusable. The reason for the "Maybe" is that even though none deployed car airbags can be recycled and reused as an affordable option for rebuilding older vehicles, not all recycled airbags are created equal. If the recyclers do not take the time to check the airbags for water and fire damage, introducing these airbags back into a car can be a potential hazard. Therefore, even though the airbags have never deployed these airbags should not be introduced into rebuilt vehicles. Finally the "Yes" option. If the none deployed or recycled car airbag is properly removed, categorized and inspected they are definitely reusable and I would consider it a perfect example of a green alternative solution. Keep in mind that airbags are sealed units and as long as the connectors, cables and covers are clean and handled properly. Recycled or used car airbags are a viable option for rebuilding older vehicles and should be considered as safe and reusable.

How do you reset the airbag warning in a 2003 Nissan Maxima?

Take it to the Nissan Dealer..... or you can have it scanned at a local auto parts store... soem of them can tell you right away what the code is, sometimes they can give you the code and you can input it on google and search to find out why you have an airbag light in the first place... I would recommend taking it to the dealership though as if it is a serious enough issue it can cause your airbags to go off on their own one day...

When were airbags in cars introduced?

The origin goes back to 1941 with the first practical prototypes of the modern airbag being developed in 1967. Getting manufacturers to put them in cars though was a different issue. They were first offered as an option in 1974 by GM. It was not until the 1990s that airbags began to be mandatory.

What is wrong with a 1995 dodge neon when all the dash board lights are not working but none of the fuses look blown the seat belt light works though?

Will the airbag go off if you unplug the crash sensors?

no they will not. I have replaced them on various vehicles. They are designed to be replaced if necessary and serviced as such. Static electricity precaution should be observed though such as touching the car bdy or metal before unplugging sensors as a rare possibility could exist. Most airbags components are normally serviceable without danger of setting airbags off.

What year were vehicles required to have air bags?

On 11 July 1984, the U.S. government amended Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 (FMVSS 208) to require cars produced after 1 April 1989 to be equipped with a passive restraint for the driver. An airbag or an automatic seat belt would meet the requirements of the standard. Airbag introduction was stimulated by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.[26] Airbags were not mandatory on light trucks until 1995.[citation needed] In 1998, FMVSS 208 was amended to require dual front airbags, and de-powered, or second-generation airbags were also mandated. This was due to the injuries caused by first-generation airbags, though FMVSS 208 continues to require that bags be engineered and calibrated to be able to "save" the life of an unbelted 50th-percentile size and weight "male"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbag

Why would a 1997 Chevy Lumina brake lights not work no even the rear window light The signals work fine The rest of the lights are fine?

Even though your signals still work, your brake lights are still activated by the collar switch in the steering column (around $50 for a new one). The third brake light has a separate switch under the brake pedal (about $7), but might not need replacement if it works after the new collar switch is installed. the pain of it is that you have to deactivate the airbags (disconnect car battery), remove the steering airbag (a few screws in the back of the wheel, the airbag cable has a spring, in can jump out and get lost), take the steering wheel off (need a steering wheel puller tool), remove the signal/wiper control/cruise control arm (CAREFULLY), disconnect the cables, pull out the old collar (check its position, you have to put the collar back in EXACTLY the same way you saw it first). reconnect everything and test. pray the airbag doesn't fire, and that all the lights work.

What is to be done when the message check airbags?

I think it means your car is junk. Because without airbags its pretty dangerous, though I'm no engineer. Have it checked out at the car dealership.

Where will you find the switch for passenger airbag?

Why causes the air bag light to flash on a 1997 200SX?

The airbag warning light will flash 10 years after your vehicle was maufacturedso even though your car is registered in 1997 it was probably on the production line 10 years ago. the light is to indicate that the s.r.s. airbag system needs an inspection/service and i belive this can only be done at Nissan main dealers

Do new pickups normally have airbags on both the driver and passenger sides?

Yes, they do. While pickups sometimes lag behind cars when it comes to safety, front airbags for the driver and passenger are available on all new trucks sold in the U.S. Be aware that some of them don't offer side airbags, though.

Why does your car beep when you turn the key in the ignition to start it?

It could be a way of saying "I'm working fine and starting now because you told me to", I've been in a few cars that do that. Look out for warning lights on your dashboard though because the sound could accompany a flashing warning light, the user manual/booklet that came with the car will have all the details regarding what you need to do when warning lights are displayed. The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps your doors aren't closed properly, the boot might still be open or your seatbelt might not be on.
