Chemical bonding is very essential for atoms. Take for example: the element carbon. It contains four valence electrons and needs 4 more to make it stable. In order to do that, bonding is needed.

Covalent bonding is applicable to organic compounds while ionic bonding is for inorganic compounds.

Most atoms form chemical bonds to make a full outer shell of electrons. It enables atoms to gain or share electrons with other elements, which forms compounds.

What atoms most often form multiple bonds?

Carbon, oxygen and nitrogen most often form multiple bonds.

Why do most of the elements on a periodic table like to form bonds with other elements?

To complete their octet

Why does carbon bond with so many different elements?

Carbon can bond with itself, and many other elements.

Is it possible for all of the elements to form bonds with each other?

No. The noble gasses will not form bonds with most elements and never bond with metals. Metals form metallic bonds with one another, but this is considered a mixture rather than a new chemical compound.

Why would an atom to form bonds with other atoms?

Bonds are formed between two atoms because that results in a more stable state for the atoms. This is a result of electron configuration where most atoms want to have 8 electrons in their outer-most orbital (there are exceptions to this rule, however).

What element is most likely to form covalent bonds silicon oxygen chlorine or sulfur?

Among the elements listed, silicon is most likely to form covalent bonds. (Silicon is in the same periodic table column as carbon, which is the most likely of all atoms to form covalent bonds.)

All elements have atoms, but most do not form molecules.

How do carbon bonds form?

Carbon forms covalent bonds in most types of atoms in most cases.

What type of bonds hold the elements together in sulfur?

Covalent bonds. Sulfur has a number of allotrpes the most common has 8 sulfur atoms covalently bonded together to form a puckered ring.

What is the no of outermost electrons in the atoms of the elements that always form covalent bonds?

the elements that form covalent bonds are on the right hand side of the periodic table and usually have either 4,5,6,7 electrons in their outer most shell (valence shell). eg carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and flourine. :)

In order to fill their outer most shells and become more stable atoms form what?

In order to fill their outer most shells and become more stable atoms form BONDS.

How many bonds does each carbon have?

The most common form is the single bond, carbon atoms can also form double bonds or triple bonds.

What type of elements is most likely to form covalent bonds?

Elements with intermediate electronegativities, such as carbon and hydrogen.

What kind of atoms form ionic compounds?

Combinations of atoms from a metal and a non-metal form ionic bonds in most cases.
