This is a very common problem when you put them back in you could try cleaning everything with brake cleaner spray, bolts and bolt holes and dry real good with air or rag.Just check them regularly but don`t over tighten.I know of 4 different rangers/ broncoii that have this problem.
In general starters do not have torque specifications. You will want to tighten the starter as tight as you can without breaking the starter bolts.
To remove the starter you just disconect the starter cable & the push-on relay connector from the solenoid. Then unfasten the starter retaining bolts and remove the starter. To install the starter, put the bolts in the top and bottom figer-tight. Then (starting with the top most bolt & working down)tighten the bolts (to 15-20 ft. lbs.)
on a 2002 4 wh drive Blazer - disconnect the battery - lossen starter bolts ( 2 ) loosen and remove the Flywheel plate that the Starter is inserted into or you wont be able to pull the starter out - really tight space 2 bolts to remove this plate - plate has an opening that the starter goes into to engage the flywheel
you can get it from the top on the trans side. 2 bolts and 2 wires. its a little tight but it will come out.
Are the starter bolts tight ? It may have worn fly-wheel teeth. If you have the ticket on the new starter then I would take it back and get another 1.
easiest repair is to remove the old starter disconnect battery cables from battery disconect wires from starter remove 3 bolts that hold starter in place install new starter one bolt is hdden and can be got at easily with socket bar extensions. tighten bolts evenly so it pulls starter up tight and even reconnect wires to starter reconnect battery cables take old stater back for your core charge anew starter runs about 189 dollars
The starter should be tight! It can cause an oil leak if it hits the oil filter and makes a hole in it (oil filter is like a coke can). If your starter is moving you must first tighten it down it's two bolts.
The tool that is used to remove the top 2 bolts on the starter located on a 1997 Lincoln Town Car is a small and stubby ratchet that has a swivel head and a socket with a short extension. This is best because since it is so tight and solenoid.
It is a pain in the butt however: 1. disconnect battery terminal 2. raise and properly support vehicle. 3. remove mounting bolts from starter (2 in bell housing 1 front support on starter) 4. lower starter and disconnect wires from starter. 5. slide out starter towards rear of vehicle (it is very tight fit but will come out) 6. installation is reverse ( have fun!)
46-50 ft.lbs. 46-50 ft.lbs.
A 15mm and a 10mm socket, socket handle and a 15 mm box wrench (preferably Gear Wrench) the bolts are usually very tight. - 2 bolts from tranny side hold it. Don't forget to remove battery cables first !
disconnect battery, lift car, unbolt starter with 9/16 socket two bolts on the rear of the starter. unbolt bracket on the front of the starter with 1/2 inch socket. disconnect battery cable from starter and the S wire from the starter. reverse order to install. make sure every thing is tight. if the starter wont drop out past the exhaust as on some models remove exhaust pipe at the flange above the starter and loosen exhaust flange on drivers side.
