They are the children of the God of War in Greek mythology.

The naming of planets has traditionnally been linked to Greek Gods. Mars in particular, is this unique red dot in the night sky, which is why it was named after the God of war.

Discovered only in 1877, Phobos and Deimos are lesser Gods (gods of Panic and Terror) which accompanied their father Ares (Mars in Roman Mythology), the god of war.
