DNA is transcribed into mRNA so the mRNA can travel out of the nucleus and bind to ribosomes to form proteins through translation. The DNA molecule cannot travel outside of the nucleus because it's too big to fit through the membrane surrounding the nucleus

The nucleus controls the cell's activities through the chemical DNA. It is the sequence of bases that determine which protein is to be made. The sequence is like a code that we can now interpret. The sequence determines which proteins are made and the proteins determine which activities will be performed. That is how the nucleus is the control center of the cell. The DNA must remain in the nucleus , so a chemical is used to to be a copy of the DNA in the nucleus and that copy is the chemical messenger- RNA. The messenger RNA (mRNA) exits the nucleus through the nuclear pores. It takes the "message" of the DNA to the ribosomes and "tells them" what proteins are to be made.

When life first evolved on the planet Earth, there was no free oxygen in the atmosphere. That came much later, after the evolution of photosynthesis. So the earliest form of genetic material, deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA, is not compatible with an oxygenated environment (hence the name, "deoxy"). So to communicate outside of the protected cell nucleus, the DNA copies messages onto messenger RNA, ribonucleic acid, which can tolerate oxygen.

DNA does not leave the nucleus, but mRNA does. After mRNA is formed, it leaves the nucleus and attaches to a ribosome in the cytoplasm or on the rough endoplasmic reticulum, where the code will be translated into a protein.

dna is transcribed into mRNA because the mRNA molecule is small enough to get out of the nucleus and bind to a ribosome for translation (protein synthesis)

DNA is transcribed into mRNA because DNA does not leave the nucleus and mRNA does. mRNA carries the genetic code to the ribosomes where the code will be translated into proteins.
