God exiled Adam and Eve. Edward exiled himself. Their reasons do not have to be in lock-step. The consequence of the fall from "unity of being" was to get them out of the Garden before they partook of the Tree of Life, which supposedly would allow them to live forever. Imagine evil living forever? The consequence is one issue, the reason is another. The reason was most likely (only my opinion) was to fulfill the plan of God for the coming of a Redeemer. I don't even know who Edward is that you are speaking of, but if he self-exiled? ... then his reason for doing so has to be taken at face-value. Since his exile was self-imposed, than only he can answer that question. If that is what he reported, then what other reason can there be?
