Why do you belong to the religion of Buddhism?

People identify themselves as belonging to any religion for many reasons:

• their family always has so they see no reason to change
• it's socially advantageous in their society to belong to that religion
• the religion appeals to their own values
• they are rebelling against their parents or society's norms

As no one ever know why anyone else does anything, it is impossible to identify the actual reason with any certainty.


With regard to Buddhism a person could be attracted to it as:

• it promotes and abides by a peaceful way of life
• it promotes accepting your own responsibility in life
• there is no god pulling the strings or acting like a nanny cam for everything yo do
• it is constent with quantum mecahnics
• it doesn't propose that it has all the answers
• there are no set in stone rules, just common sense
• you don't have to accept all the beliefs, just the parts that help you
• many admirable people are Buddhists
