This is not always the case - common sense needs to tell you what position the victim should be in based on where the wound is. Most of the time it is wounds to limbs that this is used for. A severed artery or major vein can bleed out quickly and with little or no blood left in the body you want as much as possible in the heart to pump to the brain and core. It is more important to stop the bleeding either by applying pressure directly to the wound or a pressure point between the heart and the wound. An example is the large artery under the arm (right in the armpit) than can stop even a severed hand from bleeding out by applying pressure under the arm. I have seen a tennis ball placed under the armpit and the arm pushed up against the body to stop a severed lower arm from bleeding out.
Apply direct pressure to the wound and put the person at rest. Try and elevate the injury above the level of the heart if practical. This is usefull if the injured area is a limb. All the paramecics right away.
elevate you feet above your heart. or exercise.
Above your heart if you are laying down and above the belly botton if sitting down
no, that kills people.
Elevate above the level of the heart. Roughly 12 inches
In order to autotransfuse blood towards the core, as opposed to expressing blood out of the body by increasing pressure above the wound.
Ensure that you elevate the feet above the heart for at least 15 minutes before moving the casualty.
Guidelines say to follow the PEEP or Position, Examine, Elevate, Pressure procedure for bleeding management. Position the wound so that it is easy to treat. Examine the wound for severity or objects. Elevate the wound to help reduce the bleeding. Pressure, apply pressure to the wound to help reduce bleeding and promote clotting of the wound. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES!!!
You need to stabilize it in anyway you can. apply ice and elevate it above the heart so it doesn't get as swollen. then go to a doctor immediately
Lay the person down and elevate their head and feet above the heart. then apply gauze with pressure to stop the bleeding and apply bandages.
20 minutes on 20 minutes off. Depending on what is swollen-elevate above the heart. Seek medical attention!
