Why do you get a red itchy rash under my wedding ring?

I work in fast food and have never worn a ring to work until I got married. Ever since then, I have noticed that I have a rash under my wedding band. At first, my husband's reaction was that the ring isn't really 14K white gold like the stamp says. It's an eternity band that has holes all around the inside, so I know it's from something getting trapped under/in there. The rash happens either when I wear the ring under the latex gloves we are required to wear, or from the dishwashing soap or sink sanitizer that we use. Whether it's a rash or fungus is unsure, but it does go away when I Band-aid it with triple antibiotic. Either way, it's best to leave the ring at home if you're hands aren't going to be dry at all times. Clean your jewelry often with peroxide or alcohol.
