Of course you don't have to wait! You can do it when it is convenient to you. Most people do it before going to bed, that way the clocks are correct in the morning. The specific time is given for legal purposes and 24 hour groups, such as broadcasters and hospitals.
When your car is off, press both the hour and minute buttons at the same time. Hold them until the clock switches from 24 hour to 12 hour. By doing this with the engine off, you keep the temperature reading in Fahrenheit.

Not sure what you're needing to do. But to set up the clock and the outdoor temperature sensor, make sure the batteries are new for both. Put the batteries in the outdoor sensor first. Wait to see the temperature reading on the sensor. Then put the batteries in the clock. In about 15 minutes the outdoor temperature should show on the clock. Do not set the clock until the outdoor temperature is displayed. You can set the clock manually, or set the button on the back to atomic so that it will automatically receive the time.

I have the 2001 Brava and to set the clock on it you turn on the radio, hold the EXP button until it beeps then press until TM appears on the display and the time flashes. Then turn the volume knob and the time changes! press EXP again to start the clock at the new time!
