The reason you have to wear a cast is because you need your limb or body part to be still while it heals, or else it will heal slowly, and painfully. So if you always complain that you have to wear a stupid, itchy, hard, dumb cast around your arm, well, i`d say it`s worth it!

The length of time you have to wear a cast for a fractured ankle depends on the severity and location of the fracture. Typically, you may need to wear a cast for about 6-8 weeks to allow the bone to heal properly. It is important to follow your doctor's recommendations for cast removal and rehabilitation to ensure a full recovery.

A cast keeps the leg in place while it is healing. If you weren't to wear a cast, the bones could have a lot of strain put on them and may break again because they are not being held together by the cast.
NFL players usually wear a hard cast, if they are able to play with a broken bone. The hardness of the cast protects them from further injury.
