You don't. Actually it is imperative that you UNPLUG your computer before trying to change your CPU. In addition, you need to make certain that you are grounded before you attempt to replace the CPU to avoid static discharge.

no you don't need to reset the computer. but it is always a good idea to reset it when replacing any censors. just unhook the battery cable( negative) for 30 seconds then put it back on and drive 50-75 miles to reset the computer.
