Best Answer

I do not eat horse meat for the same reason I don't eat dog meat. I consider these animals as pets and partners and it does not seem appropriate to me to eat them. Most Americans do not eat horse meat for the same reason. There is also the issue of the many medications and dewormers that are regularly used on horses that are not to be used on animals intended for slaughter. Most horses are not raised for meat, they are generally collected at auctions and such. Therefore there is no telling what they have ingested. Some cultures do eat horse meat however. Belgium, France, and Japan are some of the known consumers.

It's no more wrong than eating the meat of a cow, pig or chicken. It's that in Anglosaxon culture, they are seen as draft animals and companions rather than as food.

In addition to the above answer , which is very true. In many developed countries such as the USA, horse meat is not safe to eat due to the chemicals and drugs given to horses to keep them healthy, this is why horse meat is no longer used to make pet food as it is toxic and can kill smaller animals. There is very little meat that is considered safe on horses and the majority of the carcass goes to waste after slaughtering and butchering. This also leads to ground and water contamination after disposal.

Yes.

Answer 2:

Horse meat, particularly that from horses that were not raised solely for meat production tends to be tainted from the drugs and chemicals used to keep the horses healthy, this is why some countries are now banning meat from American horses from being imported as a food source. In other countries where horses are raised like cattle for meat production contamination risk is far lower and the meat is safer to consume.Ingestion of tainted horse meat can cause all sorts of problems the most severe of which is death of the consumer.
