You don't. Transformers only work with AC voltage. Their input will be an AC waveform, and their output will be an AC waveform. Other electronics are used to convert the stepped down AC waveform from the transformer to DC.

What type of voltage must be passed across a transformer?

A transformer must be connected to an alternating current (AC) supply of the correct voltage.

Why open circuit test is done on the transformer with low voltage side shorted?

The supply is given on the high voltage side of transformer because the supply voltage required to circulate rated current through the transformer is usually very small So energy is saved.

What is the purpose of transforms?

A transformer is used to step up or step down a Voltage supply.

What is used to increase or decrease voltage that enters a house?

A transformer can be used, either a step-up or step-down transformer, to deliver the power at a different voltage from the normal supply voltage.

Can you use a step up transformer to power your house if you use a sepereate electrical box for it?

Why would you want to do that -where would you obtain a lower voltage supply suitable for supplying a residence.

What is the load side of a transformer?

The load side of a transformer feeds the device, such as a light or motor. It is the output of the transformer. The input, or line side, provides the voltage that is to be transformed, either up or down, to supply the load side.AnswerA transformer's primary winding is connected to the supply voltage, and the secondary winding is connected to the load.

How do you solve low voltage supply?

Put a seprate transformer. It will solve this issue

What are the types of and uses for a transformer?

There are two types of transformers:- 1. Step-up transformer & 2. Step-down transformer. A transformer used to increase the voltage is called Step-up transformer. A transformer used to decrease the voltage is called Step-down transformer. Uses of step-up transformer:- in power supply stations, in picture tubes of TV, computer monitors, halogen lights, etc. Uses of step-down transformer:- in supply of electricity to homes, in the power supply to the low voltage devices like radio, music systems which are run by AC mains.

Why used transformer in subststion?

The substation is there to convert a high voltage to a lower voltage for electricity supply. Transformers are needed to do this.

What happen if the secondary side of step down transformer supply a bigger voltage?

it would be called a step up transformer

What is the difference between control transformer and Potential transformer?

Control transformer used only for control supply 110,220, 24,12V AC. But Potential transformer used voltage measurement purpose.

In D.C supply the transformer is not connected why?

In a DC power supply a transformer is connected. The only time there would be no transformer used would be if the DC voltage wanted was 120 VDC. The transformer in the power supply is connected to 120 VAC on the primary side and the secondary side of the transformer is connected to either a half wave or a full wave diode bridge. The voltage out of the diode bridge will be the same output voltage potential as the transformer's secondary voltage but it will be a DC (Direct Current) potential.Reading the question in another way, transformers are not connected in a DC circuit. The reason being is that the transformer operates on a collapsing magnetic field. This field induces a voltage into the secondary side of the transformer. Since the DC circuit does not operate on the principle of a collapsing field except when the circuit is opened, the transformer would not operate as a transformer should..
