Before Christianity reached the Celtic lands, The Celts transcribed their history orally, much like the Greeks. This is not, as many people believe, because the Celts could not write. They had just as much of an alphabet as the Greeks and Romans. They mainly used writing for menial purposes, such as coinage. They, however, believed that an oral tradition was more worthy of their stories. Professional Poets, known as Bards, would memorize the stories and traditions of their people. Most of these stories were lost, because of the Roman conquests, and those that survived have been altered, because Catholic monks saw some of the content as blasphemous and pagan. Thus, we rely greatly upon the Roman and Greek writers for information on these ancient people.

How do you pronounce pliny?

I believe the correct way to pronounce it is as "plinny" as in "skinny." This is a Latin proper name and is pronounced with a long "i," as in "tiny." (See Pliny the Elder or Pliny the Younger; both were famous Roman statesmen and writers.)

Who were senaca and pliny?

Seneca was a Roman philosopher and the tutor of the emperor Nero. There were two Plinys. Pliny the Elder was a historian and scientist and left us his vast amount of research. Pliny the Younger was a nephew and adopted son of the elder Pliny. He was a Roman governor and also left us a large amount of his correspondence. He is also the one who described the eruption of Vesuvius as it destroyed Pompeii and the other cities as he watched the entire thing from across the bay of Naples.

I assume your talking about ancient Celts the ones in roman times. If so no guns were not invented then if the Celts had a gun they wouldn't have lost so many men to the Romans. MistroJoe
