the moon is in the opposite of the sun
We can see moon and stars in the sky at night. But sometimes it may not be seen by us because of clouds in the sky.
What can we see in the sky because of gravity
True. You can also see the Moon during the day.Try moving your head from the ground to the sky once in a while.
the moon, stars, planets, sometimes shooting stars and yea that's about it
Technically speaking, when you cannot see the moon, it is a new moon. But my thinking is that if you can't see the moon, how can it be new? So my definition of a new moon is when you can see a smile in the sky because the moon is happy that it has just been born, but when you see a frown in the sky, the moon is sad because it is dying. Then you get the scientific "new moon."
The Moon is in the "waxing gibbous" phase today, August 22, 2010, so the Moon will rise in mid-afternoon and be visible somewhat north of east at sunset.
At night usually. Sometimes the moon is also visible in early morning after sunrise or late evening before sunset.
You can see the sun when the sun is in the sky--don't look directly at it! You can sometimes see the moon, but it's difficult to see stars, perhaps even impossible, when the sun is in the sky.
If you see the Moon high in the sky in the evening, it is waxing. If you see the Moon high in the sky in the wee hours before dawn, it is waning.
full moon
If the Moon is in the southwestern sky at sunset, then you are in the northern hemisphere, and the Moon is in the waxing crescent phase. You can probably guess, within one day, how many days "old" the Moon is, in days after the new moon. If the Moon is straight south at sunset, then it was 7 days old at first quarter; if it was southwest, it was about 3-4 days past the new.
