because johnny was died and he knew his wasn't really going anywhere. He felt that he had nothing to live. Since he risked is life for johnny
----
Because Johnny had died, and he felt like there wasn't really anything to live for anymore.
Johnny was the only person in the world who truly loved Dally, and Dally was the only person who truly loved Johnny. Without Johnny in his life he felt as if there was no point of moving on. I'm not sure if he really "wanted" to die...but he stole the money because he needed to do something bad. But as you saw, he didn't really want the money because he left it next to the payphone after he called Darry.
Johnny was the only thing Dally even cared about and seeing Johnny die was too much for Dally. Dally is in a upset state when he runs into the store and robs it and when he gets into the mess, he decides to finish his life by using an unloaded gun and holding it up so he was shot to death. Dally was in grief and a pretty gallant guy.
In the beginning of the book, it doesn't seem like Dally would be the person who wanted to die. But, at the end of the book, when the cops shot him, he was happy. He was happy because the world took away the only thing he loved, Johnny, so he wanted to die also to be with the only thing he ever loved.

it was because johnny was the only thing he loved, and without johnny, he was nothing, so he went crazy and robbed a store. the cops were after him and he pulled out an unloaded gun as a bluff but the cops thought he was going to shoot so they shot him and he died
Dally wanted to die a criminal. He didn't want to die as a good guy. He's the kind of guy who would want a "Wanted Dead or Alive" sign over his name.
Because Johnny died
He wanted to die so he can be with Johnny
Because in doing so, Dally would have a reason for the cops to come after him, therefore holding up his bluff, getting shot down by the cops, & getting what he wanted- to die. & what Dally wants, he gets.
He finally comes to terms with the fact that both Dally and Johnny are dead. He also says to himself that Johnny isn't dead and Dally wanted to die.
Dally knew that once he pulled a gun out that the store owner would try and shoot him, thus killing him just as Dally wanted. Dally was so consumed with grief by Johnny's death and that he believed that death was the answer Dally wanted to die and he was using the store owner and the cops to help him achieve that. So that is why he pulled his gun out even though he knew that there was no bullets inside the chamber
Dally didn't really ever love anything as much Johnny, and when Johnny died, Dallas didn't want to live without him, so he wanted to die and he did and Pony knew it.R.I.PJohnny CadeandDallas Winston
He is scared for many reasons. One reason is that they can take him away from his brothers and put him in a boy's home. The people of that time are going to believe the police even if they make something up. Not many people of that time are not going to think a greaser is honest about something. So it all boils down to him being a greaser and the police not liking greasers very much or at all.

Dally wanted to die and his gang that he always gets what he wants and this time Dally wants to be dead.
Dally is the cold, hardheaded member of the gang. However, he is loyal to all of his friends. *******************SPOILER ALERT******************************** In the end, Dally robs a store and gets shot by the police. He dies. But, Dally did it on purpose because he wanted to die.
Dally dies with a grim look of triumph on his face because Johnny was the only thing he ever loved, and now johnny was gone. He couldn't take it anymore, so he wanted to kill himself, and, as the book says, "Dally always got what he wanted".
He finally comes to terms with the fact that both Dally and Johnny are dead. He also says to himself that Johnny isn't dead and Dally wanted to die.
